It is always interesting to see what ex-Olympic greats do with their lives after competition. For track legend Carl Lewis, his journey has included giving back to the next generation of the sport's stars. 

Lewis is now in his fifth season as a full-time assistant coach for the University of Houston's men's and women's track teams. He has been dedicated to helping the Cougars sprinters and the team has had noted success under his guidance. 

In 2017, he helped the team win the men's 4x100 relay at the NCAA Championships. The four-man team of John Lewis III, Mario Burke, Jacarias Martin and Cameron Burrell captured the gold by posting a school record 38.44 time. 

Overall the sprinters and jumpers at UH claimed nine American Athletic Conference Championships in 2017. Burrell was the national runner-up in the indoor 60-meter dash and outdoor 100-meter dash.

During Lewis' first two seasons at UH, the Cougars won nine AAC Championships.

It has been quite the homecoming for the internationally revered athlete. Lewis was a six-time All-American and won nine conference championships as an individual during two years at Houston. 

After his time with the Cougars, Lewis cemented his legacy as one of the greatest athletes of the 20th century. He won ten Olympic medals, including nine gold medals. 

Lewis broke out on the international stage in 1984, winning four gold medals, matching Jesse Owens' 1936 Olympic performance. He competed in three subsequent Games, taking home his fourth straight gold in the long jump in 1996.
