Carli Lloyd is the Unquestioned Endorsement Winner of the Women's World Cup

Last night, U.S. women’s national team player Carli Lloyd had a moment that seemed written by Hollywood.  Lloyd became just the second player in World Cup history to score three goals in a final.

More impressively, those three put-ins all occurred within the first 16 minutes of action, giving the Americans a great start in their ultimate 5-2 throttling of Japan.  After Lloyd’s impressive finish to the tournament, there was no question that the midfielder would be awarded the Golden Boot.

Overall, she had six World Cup goals, including the game winners against China and Germany.  While Lloyd captains the U.S., she became the unlikely star of the tournament alongside higher profile names like Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan

It was fitting that all her goals came in the first 16 minutes as the spree pushed Team USA to their first World Cup triumph in 16 years.  However, in Lloyd’s 200 plus games with the national team, she had already had plenty of big moments leading up to Sunday.

Lloyd scored both game-winners in the 2008 and 2012 gold medal Olympic matches.  Overall, she has 69 goals since getting the call-up to the senior squad in 2005.

It is unlikely that any future moments on the pitch will fly under the radar.  Lloyd now stands to become an even bigger star on the marketing and endorsement circuit.

Forbes says that yesterday’s match could mean millions more in endorsement money over the life of her career.  Lloyd’s profile soared almost immediately when she added over 50,000 Twitter followers during those 90 minutes yesterday.

She primarily had small endorsement deals with companies like Usana Health Sciences coming into the World Cup.  ESPN’s Darren Rovell notes that Lloyd just recently got a deal to represent Visa during the 2016 Olympics and more major companies are sure to jump on board soon.
