The two-time Super Bowl champion Charlie Batch will be one of the commencement speakers for Eastern Michigan University’s graduation this April. Batch is an alumnus himself from the university as he graduated from there in the late 1990’s with a degree in criminal justice. He will be speaking alongside the Emmy-winning producer Sally Young who is the current producer of ABC’s show “Modern Family.” It was a real treat that EMU was able to book these two for their graduation ceremony this year, as they will be people of interest that the student body will be able to relate to through their sports and television affiliations. Not only that, but before Batch went to the pros he also broke records for the EMU football team during his time there as both a player and a student.
Batch was picked up by the Detroit Lions as their starting quarterback in 1998 after the short notice retirement of Barry Sanders. In his career in the NFL he passed over 11,000 yards on the field before retiring from the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2012, which is the team he got two Super Bowl rings with. He currently works in Pittsburgh for KDKA-TV which he has the role of a pre-game analyst for the Steelers. In addition to that, he also works with Champs Sports Network as a color analyst for high school football and basketball games that are aired on television.
Batch will be speaking at the 2015 EMU commencement ceremony on April 26, which will be without doubt both fun and exciting. What a great way for students to end their career in college, by having one of their own come back to wish them all the success in the world.
