Canada's fifth largest bank is rolling out their star endorser with a series of ads that hit the web today. Edmonton Oilers rookie Connor McDavid originally agreed to an endorsement deal with CIBC in December.
The first spot shows some family photos of McDavid. It then shows the rising prodigy playing street hockey with CIBC penguin mascot Percy.
As part of the deal, CIBC's wealth-management division will handle McDavid's earnings. He has other sponsor deals with Adidas-Reebok-CCM and BioSteel.
McDavid was the number one overall pick of the Oilers in this past April's NHL Entry Draft. Despite fighting through a broke clavicle during his rookie season, he still has 29 points in 27 games for Edmonton.
On February 11th, he had the best game of his young career, scoring two goals and adding three assists against the Toronto Maple Leafs. McDavid also won NHL Rookie of the Month in October after notching 12 points in his first 12 league games.
Prior to arriving in the NHL, McDavid spent three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Erie Otters. In his final season of juniors, he won the Red Tilson Trophy as the OHL's Most Outstanding Player.
