Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney is preparing his team to play for a national championship for the third straight year. He did take some time out of his schedule on Wednesday to speak at a special event in Columbus, South Carolina.
Swinney was the keynote presenter at Sportsvisions' 10th annual Columbus Valley Area High School Football Awards luncheon. He was able to share his experiences as a player and coach.
Swinney used his journey from walk-on player to top college football coach as a point of motivation. He followed a list of successful coaches who have spoken at the event that include Alabama's Nick Saban and Georgia's Kirby Smart.
Last season, Swinney led the Tigers to their first national championship since 1980. With 101 coaching victories, he currently ranks second in school history.
Swinney has won four Atlantic Coast Conference championships at Clemson. In 2015, he was the ACC Coach of the Year and won several national coaching awards.
Swinney joined the Clemson coaching staff in 2003 and was promoted to head coach in 2009 after serving in the role in an interim capacity. He is a former Alabama wide receiver who began his coaching career at his alma mater as a graduate assistant in 1993.
