Los Angeles Clippers forward Matt Barnes is revered for his defense and unrelenting style of play. When the 8th annual edition of his camp kicks off, he hopes to be able to instill some of the same principles in those attending.
The Matt Barnes Basketball Camp will run from August 7th-9th at Palisades Charter High School outside Los Angeles. Kids from the ages of 6-14 can attend the three-day camp that runs from 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. each day.
Registration for each camper is $250 before July 1st and $300 after. More information can be found at www.mattbarnesbasketballcamp.com.
Despite being a low second round pick out of UCLA, Barnes has found a way to craft a successful 13-year NBA career. This past season, he started a career-high 74 games and averaged over ten points a game for just the third time in his career.
In addition to his tenacious defense, Barnes has been known as a shot maker. He first exploded onto the scene by making 106 three-points for the Golden State Warriors during the 2006-07 season.
That year, Barnes helped the Warriors upset the number one seed Dallas Mavericks in the playoffs. He played a similarly important role in 2010 when the Orlando Magic advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Throughout his career, Barnes has found a way to have an impact off the court as well. His foundation, Athletes vs. Cancer, lives on in memory of his mother and helps those affected by pediatric cancer.
