Johnny Majors is one of the true legends of college football, especially in the state of Tennessee. On April 9, he will be in Zanesville as the featured speaker at the 40th annual Pass Monarch's Smoker.
Majors will talk about his iconic playing and coaching career at Prophets Park. The evening will begin with a social hour at 6 p.m. followed by a prime rib dinner at 7 p.m.
Tickets are currently available for $50 at Ford’s Flowers or Keith Schrader Insurance. It should be a great night to hear from an athlete who has a copious amount of entertaining stories.
Majors was a two-time SEC MVP as a halfback at Tennessee. In 1956, he was an All-American and finished second in Heisman Trophy voting.
Majors also began his coaching career at his alma mater before making stops as an assistant at Arkansas and Mississippi State. He got his first head coaching opportunity at Iowa State before leading Pittsburgh to prominence.
In 1976, Majors guided the Panthers to a national championship. He then returned to lead the Volunteers and won three SEC championships at the school.
