Former Detroit Tigers Star Kirk Gibson Officially Joins Team's Television Broadcast

Detroit Tigers fans have great memories of the on-field heroics provided by Kirk Gibson. They will be seeing plenty more him in 2019, with the ex-star officially announced as a member of the team's television broadcast team.

Gibson will join play-by-play man Matt Shepard and fellow analyst and Tigers legend Jack Morris in the Fox Sports Detroit booth for select games. He filled in on a full-time interim basis last year and has also worked a limited schedule of games since 2015.

Morris also worked as an analyst for Fox Sports Detroit from 1998-2002. The trio's first assignment will be a March 14 Spring Training matchup against the Boston Red Sox.

Gibson's most memorable Tigers moment came in the 1984 World Series, when he hit a series-clinching three-run home run for Detroit. That year, he was also named MVP of the American League Championship Series.

Gibson's postseason heroics carried on to his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 1988, he was named National League MVP and then went on to hit a pinch-hit walk-off home run in Game 1 of the World Series that year.

In retirement, Gibson spent time as a coach with the Tigers and Arizona Diamondbacks in addition to his broadcasting work. He was the manager of the Diamondbacks from 2010-14 and was named the 2011 NL Manager of the Year.
