ESPN Analyst Jay Williams Speaks at Children’s Charity Event Friday

Former basketball standout and current ESPN analyst Jay Williams is coming to Iowa. He will speak at Variety - the Children's Charity's "Fire and Ice" fundraiser on Friday in Des Moines.

The charity works to help the lives of underprivileged, at-risk and special needs children throughout Iowa. They give to many charities across the state and lead the Bikes for Kids initiative.

This is their 32nd black tie gala and it takes place from 6:30-11 p.m. at the Ron Pearson Center. Williams will talk about his journey to college basketball stardom and the difficulties he had following a career-ending injury.

Williams was a two-time consensus first-team All-American and the national college player of the year in 2002 at Duke. As a sophomore, he helped lead the Blue Devils to the NCAA Championship.

Williams scored over 2,000 points in his college career and has his #22 jersey retired at Duke. The Chicago Bulls made him the 2nd overall pick of the 2002 NBA Draft.

After his rookie season, Williams was part of a devastating motorcycle accident that left him unable to resume his career. While he has no been able to return to the court, he has found a home as a successful college basketball analyst for ESPN and motivational speaker.
