Canton, Ohio native Todd Blackledge got to talk football in his hometown on Monday. The ESPN college football analyst was the keynote speaker at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Club Luncheon.
Blackledge spoke to the assembled members and guests at Tozzi’s on 12th about an array of topics. They discussed the College Football Playoff, the Heisman race, and coaching changes.
Blackledge had a successful college and pro career, but is now more widely known for his entertaining work on ESPN. He is one of the top analysts on the network, weekly traveling to call games alongside Brad Nessler.
ABC Sports first gave Blackledge national exposure with a role on their telecasts in 1994. That was followed by a run at CBS before returning to ESPN in 2006.
Before starring as a commentator, Blackledge was a standout on the field. He went 31-5 as the starting quarterback at Penn State for three seasons and led the Nittany Lions to the 1982 national championship while taking home the Davey O’Brien Award as the nation’s best signal caller.
Following that magical season, the Kansas City Chiefs made Blackledge the seventh overall pick of the 1983 NFL Draft. He played professionally for seven seasons with the Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Blackledge is also still busy even when he is not calling games on Saturdays in the fall. In 2014, he started coaching basketball in Canton at Hoover High School.
