When anyone thinks about college football, images of Lee Corso putting on the headgear at the end of ESPN’s College GameDay are not far behind. Another name well associated with the sport is six-time national championship coach Nick Saban.
On April 17, Corso will make an appearance at a fundraiser titled “A Night Honoring Nick Saban." The fundraiser is for the Mobile, Alabama-based Christian nonprofit Team Focus.
The organization tries to impart strong values and serve as role models for young men in the community. Corso has been a supporter of Team Focus for many years and will participate in a meet and greet that evening.
Corso has been a fixture on ESPN since the start of College GameDay in 1987. He has become well-known for catchphrases like “Not so fast, my friend!”
Prior to becoming a television icon, Corso was a college football head coach at Louisville, Indiana and Northern Illinois. In 1979, he led the Hoosiers to one of their most memorable seasons, going 8-4 and capping the year with a win in the Holiday Bowl.
Corso also won two Missouri Valley Conference championships at Louisville. He coached professionally in the USFL with the Orlando Renegades and still resides in Orlando.
