ESPN Writer Kate Fagan Speaks at SUNY New Paltz

Many have found inspiration in ESPN writer Kate Fagan's book, "What Made Maddy Run." The book tells a story about a college athlete's struggle with depression during her freshman track and field season.

The State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball coach Jamie Seward and Director of Athletics, Wellness and Recreation Stuart Robinson were similarly impacted by reading it. They welcomed Fagan to come speak to their student-athletes about mental health.

Her visit was part of the launch for SUNY New Paltz's "Athletes Together" program. In addition to sharing more about the story from her book, Fagan also talked about her time as a student-athlete at the University of Colorado.

Fagan has been with ESPN since 2012 and her work is featured on ESPN.com and in ESPN The Magazine. She also is regularly featured on the television shows Around the Horn and First Take

Fagan previously covered the Philadelphia 76ers for the Philadelphia Inquirer for three seasons. She began her journalism career working for The Glen Falls Post-Star and The Ellensburg Daily Record

Fagan has a bachelor of science in communication from CU. She was a member of the Buffaloes women's basketball team from 1999-2004.
