The Kentucky Derby Festival Basketball Classic took Louisville by storm last month. Former Kentucky Wildcats star Derek Anderson was there to take part in the festivities.
Anderson spoke at a luncheon for the event at the Muhammad Ali Center on April 14th.Several of the nation's top high school players were in attendance to hear his words.
The players also visited the Norton's Children's Hospital earlier in the day and participated in The Night of Future Stars in the evening. The game took place the following day at legendary Freedom Hall.
Anderson was a key component of the UK team that won the 1996 NCAA Championship. A year later, he was selected in the first round of the NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
During that first season, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie second-team. While injuries limited him at times during his career, he had several highlights, including averaged a career-best 16.9 points per game with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2000.
Anderson also won an NBA title with the Miami Heat in 2006. He now serves as a motivational speaker and runs The Stamina Foundation.
