Ex-NHL Star Todd Bertuzzi Visits High School to Speak About Dangers of Prescription Drugs

Prescription drugs are something that can quickly overcome a professional athlete battling injuries. Former NHL All-Star Todd Bertuzzi knows the dangers all too well. 

Last Tuesday, Bertuzzi spoke at Prescription Drug Awareness Night at Lutheran High School North outside of Detroit, Michigan. The event is being put on by Example which is the school's anti-drug and alcohol group. 

It will take place from 7-8 p.m. and is free and open to the public. There will be many examples Bertuzzi used from his playing career to give the students an understanding about the consequences surrounding prescription drug abuse. 

Bertuzzi was a high-profile player during much of his lengthy NHL career. He was originally a first round pick in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders. 

It was during his seven-and-a-half seasons with the Vancouver Canucks where Bertuzzi experience most of his success. He was a two-time All-Star in Vancouver and a First NHL All-Star in 2003. 

Bertuzzi represented Canada twice at the World Championships and the 2006 Olympics. He officially retired from hockey in 2015.
