Augusta University had the perfect speaker to culminate their annual Alumni Weekend. Former standout New Orleans Saints quarterback Archie Manning keynoted the event on Saturday night.
The evening was attended by hundreds of alumni. It was the final activity of inauguration week and the alumni weekend.
Manning spoke at length about leadership. Not just the kind of guidance that he displayed on the football field, but also the kind that helped him raise a family and be a significant contributor to the community.
Those last two areas of his life are what people in some circles actually recognize him for today. He is the patriarch of the Manning family that has produced his Super Bowl winning sons Peyton and Eli.
In the years following his Saints career, Manning has also become a symbolic face of the New Orleans community. He was one of the people the city rallied around in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Manning played 14 NFL seasons and made two Pro Bowls. He was also an iconic amateur football player at Ole Miss and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1989.
