Former All-Star George Foster is lending his name and time to a collegiate summer league team. He is the keynote speaker at the 22nd annual Celebrity Breakfast for the Danbury Westerners of the New England Collegiate Baseball League.
The breakfast will be held at 7:30 a.m. on June 10th at the Amber Room Colonnade in Danbury, Connecticut. Reservations are required and can be purchased through the team.
The Westerners will also present the annual Michael Seri Award that they give to someone for their dedication and sportsmanship. To attend, tables of ten cost $350.
Foster was a five-time All-Star and one of the most feared hitters in baseball during the late 1970's. He led the National League in home runs two times and RBI three times.
In 1977, Foster had his best season by far. He hit .320 with 52 home runs and 149 RBI on the way to winning NL MVP honors.
While with the Cincinnati Reds, Foster also won two World Series titles. He was inducted into the Reds Hall of Fame in 2003.
