Football Great Michael Strahan Inspires Students at Recent Speaking Engagement

It was not likely that Michael Strahan would have a Hall of Fame football career and then become one of America's most successful television personalities. He talked about how he has seized opportunities in business and life at the Black, Brown and College Bound conference in Tampa, Florida.

Strahan was the keynote speaker at the conference's Signature Luncheon on Monday. Approximately 300 students turned out for the five-day summit that addresses the educational challenges faced by black and Latino men.

Strahan walked attendees through his entire journey and talked about being a lightly-regarded high school prospect and a long-shot to fill TV icon Regis Philbin's shoes as a prominent morning host. He stressed having the right attitude and believing in yourself as key attributes that would contribute to success.

Strahan had a 15-year NFL career with the New York Giants and collected 141.5 sacks. He was a seven-time Pro Bowler and four-time first-team All-Pro.

In 2001, Strahan set a league record with 22.5 sacks and was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year. He finished his career by helping the Giants defeat the 18-0 New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.

Strahan went on to serve as the co-host for Live! with Kelly and Michael from 2012-16 and he won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show Host in 2016. He is currently a full-time contributor for Good Morning America and an analyst on Fox NFL Sunday
