Beloved football icon Archie Manning will be the keynote speaker at the kickoff luncheon for one of college football’s oldest bowl games. Manning is headlining the Independence Bowl event on July 20th at the Shreveport Convention Center.
The luncheon will be held on the second floor and begin at 11:45. Individual tickets cost $50 with a table of eight running $400.
Manning has been a respected sportsman since the 1960s. He dazzled crowds at the University of Mississippi and was SEC Player of the Year in 1969.
Then Manning became an institution for the New Orleans Saints, going to two Pro Bowls despite playing for one of the league’s worst teams for over a decade. His #18 has been retired by Ole Miss and the #8 he wore with the Saints has never been issued to another player.
Perhaps Manning’s greatest legacy left on the game of football is his two Super Bowl-winning sons, Peyton and Eli. Also in retirement, he has continued to be a corporate pitchman, football ambassador, and broadcaster.
