Offensive lineman normally get overlooked and underappreciated, but for the greatest players at the position, a final honor awaits at the end of their careers that can vaildate everything. Former St. Louis Rams offensive tackle Orlando Pace felt that pride this weekend when he got the call about being elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Pace received the 80 percent needed to be a member of the eight-person 2016 Hall class. He goes in with contemporaries like Brett Favre and Marvin Harrison.
It was the second year of elgibility for Pace after he was a finalist for the Hall of Fame in 2015. The entire class will be officially inducted on August 6th in Canton, Ohio.
Pace built one of the best careers that any left tackle has had in league history. He played a vital role for the St. Louis Rams teams that had great success on offense and won Super Bowl XXXIV.
Pace went to seven Pro Bowls and was a three-time first-team All-Pro. He started 154 straight games on the line and blocked for three consecutive NFL MVPs.
In 2010, Pace was named the left tackle on the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team. He is also in the College Football Hall of Fame for an Ohio State career that saw him win back-to-back Lombardi Awards.
