One of the biggest names in the history of college football in South Florida spoke on behalf of the Boca Raton Bowl last Friday. Former University of Miami head coach Butch Davis was keynote speaker at the inaugural Boca Raton Bowl Partners Luncheon.
The luncheon was held at The Breakers Palm Beach. Davis stressed to those in attendance the vital role they play in making the game a success.
This year's bowl game will be on December 20th at 7 p.m. at FAU Stadium. It will be televised on ESPN and feature teams from Conference USA and the American Athletic Conference.
Davis was the head coach at Miami from 1995-2000 and set the stage for one of the most dominant runs in college football history. He went 51-20 in Coral Gables with perfect 4-0 record in bowl games.
After Davis left for the Cleveland Browns, a team largely comprised of his recruits went to back-to-back national championship games. Following his run in the NFL, he returned to the college game at North Carolina and led the Tar Heels to three straight 8-5 seasons.
Davis notably learned under coaching icon Jimmy Johnson, serving as one of his assistants at Oklahoma State, Miami and the Dallas Cowboys. He won back-to-back Super Bowls as a defensive coordinator with the Cowboys.
