The Fellowship of Christian Athletes has gotten a very relevent speaker for Tuesday's 45th annual Orange Bowl Prayer Breakfast. One of the greatest players in college football history, former Florida State quarterback Charlie Ward, will speak on behalf of FCA.
The breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. at Jungle Island and it sponsored by Baptist Health South Florida. Players from the Clemson and Oklahoma teams set to square off in the game on New Year's Eve will be in attendance to hear Ward speak.
Tickets for the general public are $30 per person or $500 for a sponsored table of ten. Proceeds from the tickets and raffle items at the breakfast will benefit FCA.
Ward blazed his way to college football immortality by winning the Heisman Trophy in 1993 and leading the Seminoles to their first national title. The two-time ACC Athlete of the Year also played basketball at FSU and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
Ward's pro career would take place on the hardcourt as opposed to the football field. He was drafted in the first round by the New York Knicks in 1994 and spent ten seasons with the franchise.
The Knicks went to the postseason in six consecutive seasons with Ward playing a vital role. He is currently the head football coach at Booker T. Washington High School in Pensacola, Florida.
