Former Houston Oilers All-Pro Robert Brazile Makes Plans for Hall of Fame Induction

Former Houston Oilers All-Pro Robert Brazile was elated when he found out that he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. After that announcement on Super Bowl week, preparations immediately began for the enshrinement ceremony on August 4th.

One of the most important decisions any Hall of Famer has to make is who will present them in Canton, Ohio. Inductees often go with someone who was pivotal in their football career or a family member.

Brazile's had an easy choice and recently made it public that his father, Robert Sr., will present him. He originally let his dad know that he would be his presenter during the finalist process, a period of time when Robert Sr. was battling cancer.

Brazile recently recounted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame what that first conversation was like with his father.

"You gotta get well," said Brazile. "You gotta present me. He said, to what? I said dad, I'm a finalist for the Hall of Fame. After that day, he's been the proudest dad that's ever walked around on this earth."

Brazile played his entire ten-year career with the Oilers and developed the menacing nickname, "Dr. Doom." The linebacker was a seven-time Pro Bowler and five-time first-team All-Pro.

Brazile was also a key member of Houston teams that reached the 1978 and 1979 AFC Championship Games. He ranks second in franchise history with 1,281 tackles.

Brazile was named to the NFL 1970s All-Decade Team. In retirement, he has served as a coach and middle school teacher for special needs students in Mobile, Alabama.
