After starring for the Miami Heat in the twilight of his NBA career, Ray Allen has stayed in town and found ways to make a difference. The next example of that is coming this fall with the Ray Allen Loews Miami Beach Hotel Celebrity Golf Tournament.
The tournament is being held at the at the Miami Beach Golf Club at 8:30 a.m. on October 20th. The event benefits Miami-Dade County Public Schools through the Foundation for New Education Initiatives
Lowes Miami Beach Hotel has been hosting the tournament for six years, but last year was the first time they partnered with Allen. In the past, top sports stars with ties to the area like Dan Marino and Alonzo Mourning have been featured.
Allen played 18 seasons in the NBA and left as one of the greatest shooters in league history. He is the all-time leader in three-pointers made in the regular season and postseason.
Allen played for four different franchises and was a ten-time All-Star. He won NBA championships with the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat.
In Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals, Allen made one of the most iconic shots in history to send the game into overtime against the San Antonio Spurs. After one final season, he retired from basketball in 2015.
