Former NBA player Brian Grant was a powerful force on the court. His athletic prowess could not escape the the effect of Parkinson's however.
Grant has made it his mission in retirement to help others by sharing his story. On Saturday, he spoke at a fundraiser for Punching Out Parkinson's in Fort Worth, Texas.
Meet the Champs VI was hosted by two-time world boxing champion Paulie Ayala. Grant talked about the struggles he has had in his journey with Parkinson's and some of the things he does to ward off the more aggressive symptoms of the disease.
Grant had a 12-year NBA career. The Sacramento Kings originally selected him with the eighth overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft and he went on to make the All-Rookie First Team in 1995.
Grant had his most impactful years with the Portland Trail Blazers and made back-to-back Western Conference Finals in 1999 and 2000. He had his best statistical season with the Miami Heat, averaging 15.2 points and 8.8 rebounds during the 2000-01.
After also spending time with the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns, Grant retired in 2006. His #33 jersey was retired by Xavier University in 2011.
