19 of the top players in college basketball recently convened for the NCAA Elite Student-Athlete Symposium. Former NBA Player Derek Anderson was able to recount his journey to basketball stardom.
The event took place at NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana. It was an educational program designed to teach these top prospects about the kinds of obstacles they may face.
Many people spoke to the group, including ex-NBA players and NCAA staff. In addition to hearing from Anderson, they heard about Antoine Walker's financial struggles.
Anderson was part of the NCAA Championship team at the University of Kentucky in 1996. The Cleveland Cavaliers went on to select him with the 13th overall pick in the 1997 NBA Draft.
Anderson was a member of the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 1998. After two seasons with the Cavaliers, he had the best season of his career in 2000, averaging 16.9 points per game with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Anderson went on to play for five other franchises and won an NBA title with the Miami Heat in 2006. In retirement, he has found success as a screenwriter and producer.
