Some interesting visitors are popping up at college football camps to get players ready for the upcoming season. One such visitor was former NBA player Derek Anderson who visited the Alabama squad last week.
Anderson spoke to the team about persistence and defeating life’s struggles. Head coach Nick Saban cited his autobiography, Stamina, as a reason he wanted him to come in and speak.
Many have sought the wisdom of Anderson in his post-playing days. He recently delivered a similar speech to the Minority Business Expo in Lexington, Kentucky.
Anderson played 11 seasons in the NBA and scored over 7,000 points. He got an opportunity to win a championship with the Miami Heat in 2006.
The Cleveland Cavaliers originally selected Anderson 13th overall in the 1997 NBA Draft out of the University of Kentucky. He was a college star for the Wildcats, helping a team loaded with future pros win a national title in 1996.
Outside of speaking, Anderson remains active in retirement. He founded a media company in 2009 and also continues to use his charity to aid underprivelaged children and victims of domestic abuse.
