On Thursday, ex-NFL player Ray McElroy was able to share some of the insights on life that he has learned off the football field. He was the featured speaker at the Community Leaders Breakfast in Decator, Ill.
McElroy spoke at the Decator Convention Center for the event that ran from 7-9 a.m. His presentation was titled "Life Beyond the Game".
Tickets were $16 and included a year-long subscription to the Herald & Review. In addition to the breakfast, McElroy also spoke at Decatur Christian School on Thursday.
McElroy defied the odds to play six NFL seasons. He was a cornerback for the Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears, and Detroit Lions.
The Colts originally selected McElroy in the fourth round of the 1995 NFL Draft out of Eastern Illinois University. He started for the Panthers for four seasons and was a three-time All-Conference player.
Since retiring, McElroy is an active public speaker through his organization A Ray of Hope on Earth. He is also a licensed minister and the Team Chaplain for the Bears.
