Dan Pastorini starred at quarterback for the Houston Oilers for many years. He remains an important part of that community and spoke at the annual fall luncheon for Mission Northeast yesterday.
Pastorini spoke at length about the good that Misson Northeast does. They are a non-profit that helps the homeless out of their headquarters in the Houston suburb of New Caney.
The luncheon also served as an opportunity to honor some of Mission Northeast's top volunteers. Some of the people who have been helped by the charity were able to share their stories as well.
Pastorini played for four different NFL teams, but spent his first nine years in the league with the Oilers. They originally selected him with the third overall pick of the 1971 NFL Draft.
Pastorini had several highlights in Houston, including being named to the 1975 Pro Bowl. He led the Oilers to several playoff victories and his last game with the franchise was the 1979 AFC Championship.
Pastorini finished his career with stints with the Oakland Raiders, Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles. Following his football career, he pursued his racing passion and ran in the NHRA Drag Racing Series for several years.
