Former NFL Quarterback Oliver Luck is still a big name in the state of West Virginia. He was back in the region on Thursday, speaking at the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce annual dinner.
The event was held at the building that formerly served as the West Virginia Penitentiary. Luck talked about how the Ohio Valley has changed over the years.
He also said that a "hard work attitude" is vital to the region's survival. There were several community leaders recognized for their achievements as well.
Luck was a three-year starter at quarterback from the University of West Virginia. He is a member of the WVU Sports Hall of Fame.
Luck went on to spent five seasons in the NFL with the Houston Oilers. After retiring from football, he went on to get his law degree and works in sports administration.
Luck went back to his alma mater and became the Mountaineers athletic director in 2010. He currently serves as executive vice president for regulatory affairs with the NCAA.
