Former NFL Running Back Garrison Hearst Speaks at Lincoln County Athletic Booster Club Dinner

Last week, a favorite native son gave a helping hand to the Lincoln County Athletic Booster Club.  Former NFL running back Garrison Hearst was the speaker at the club's kickoff dinner.

Hearst talked about being a good student and a good student-athlete.  He shared his story of hard work that led to a successful career in pro football.

Tickets to attend the dinner were $25.  There were also various raffles and prizes won throughout the night including a parking spot at Buddy Bufford Field for all 2016 home games.

Hearst was a two-time Pro Bowler in his ten-year NFL career.  He had his most success with the San Francisco 49ers, including a 1998 season that saw him set team records for yards and all-purpose yards.

During the playoffs that year, Hearst suffered a significant ankle injury and spent two years out of action.  When he returned in 2001, he ran for over 1,200 yards and was named NFL Comeback Player of the Year.

Hearst was originally selected with the third overall pick by the Phoenix Cardinals at the 1993 NFL Draft.  He played college football at Georgia, where he was a consensus All-American and Doak Walker Award winner in 1992.
