Former Pittsburgh Steeler J.T. Thomas Kicks Off Macon Touchdown Club This Fall

With football season just around the corner, the Macon Touchdown Club has unveiled their fall schedule. Pittsburgh Steelers legend J.T. Thomas will be the first speaker on September 11th. 

The weekly meetings take place at the Rumford Center at the Methodist Home for Children. Each week, local high school football star players and coaches will receive awards. 

Current FBS coaches on the schedule include Georgia Tech's Paul Johnson (October 2nd), Georgia State's Shawn Elliott (November 13th) and Army's Jeff Monken (November 20th). Former college football coaches like George O'Leary (September 25th) and Jim Grobe (October 30th) will also speak. 

Thomas is a Macon, Georgia native. After playing college football at Florida State, he was a first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1973 NFL Draft.

Thomas was a standout defensive back for the franchise for nine seasons and was part of four Super Bowl teams. In 1976, Thomas was named to the Pro Bowl. 

After one final season with the Denver Broncos, Thomas retired after the 1982 season. He has lived in Monroeville, Pennslyvania for years and has been a restauranteur in the area.
