Former San Francisco Giants Pitcher Dave Dravecky Keynotes Adventist Foundation Gala in October

Former San Francisco Giants pitcher Dave Dravecky has been sharing his story of overcoming adversity for nearly three decades. In October, he gets to deliver his message at the Adventist Health Central Valley Health Foundation Gala.

The event will be held on October 5th in Hanford, California at the Hanford Civic Auditorium. Proceeds raised will go towards purchasing the Adventist Health Breast Care Cancer a tomosynthesis machine.

A tomosynthesis machine is an advanced form of mammography that will help in the early detection of breast cancer. Seats are currently available and can be purchased by contacting the Central Valley Health Foundation.

Dravecky can certainly speak to the life-altering effects of cancer. In the prime of his baseball career, a cancerous desmoid tumor was found in his pitching arm.

Dravecky had half of his deltoid muscle removed, but returned to pitch in the major leagues the following season. Unfortunately, two starts into his comeback, he broke the humerus bone in his pitching arm, forcing him to retire.

While Dravecky had to eventually have his arm amputated, he has maintained a productive life as a motivational speaker and author. He finished his major league career with a 64-57 record and a 3.13 ERA.
