Former South Carolina Standout Marcus Lattimore Speaks at YMCA Prayer Breakfast

While Marcus Lattimore's NFL dream did not pan out, he is still inspiring people off the field. On Monday, he spoke at the Newberry YMCA Chapter's annual Prayer Breakfast.

Lattimore still has great influence throughout the state of South Carolina due to his time as a standout player for the Gamecocks. During the presentation, he spoke very candidly about the devastating injury he suffered as a junior at the school.

Lattimore used this story to illustrate to the attendees to keep the faith about their own journeys in life. He shared that there is always a greater purpose in life than materialistic success.

In 2010, Lattimore burst onto the scene for USC as a true freshman. He ran for 1,197 yards and 17 touchdowns on the way to being named SEC Freshman of the Year.

That season, the Gamecocks also won the SEC East division. After his first-team All-SEC season, Lattimore followed up with another strong performance as a sophomore that netted him All-SEC second team honors.

After the severe injury to his right knee, Lattimore still went on to be drafted in the fourth round by the San Francisco 49ers and spent two seasons with the franchise. He is currently the head football coach at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School in South Carolina.
