Former Standout Quarterback Archie Manning Named Speaker for C Spire Conerly Trophy Presentation

Archie Manning is a true sports legend in the state of Mississippi. He will play an important role this year in recognizing the top college football player from the state.

Manning is going to be the guest speaker at the presentation of the C Spire Conerly Trophy. The event takes place on November 28th at the Hilton Jackson.

The ten Mississippi schools with four-year football programs will send their top players along with coaches to the banquet. Manning would assuredly be a former winner of this award, but the C Spire Conerly Trophy has only existed for 21 years.

Manning spent three seasons at the starting quarterback at the University of Mississippi. In 1969, he was the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year and a first-team All-American.

The New Orleans Saints made Manning the second overall pick in the 1971 NFL Draft. He spent ten seasons with the franchise and made back-to-back Pro Bowls in 1978 and 1979.

Manning went on to play for the Houston Oilers and Minnesota Vikings before retiring in 1984. He is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, has his jersey retired by Ole Miss and is a member of the New Orleans Saints Ring of Honor.
