One of the most successful coaches in recent college football history participated in Birmingham Bowl festivities. The Monday Morning Quarterback welcomed former Texas football coach Mack Brown.
Brown spoke at a welcome dinner this past Tuesday for players and coaches participating in the game. At the event, former Alabama and NFL linebacker Cornelius Bennett was recognized as the 2017 Golden Flake Legend of Birmingham.
Texas Tech and the University of South Florida football teams also did sightseeing around the area. The Bulls defeated the Red Raiders in the game on Saturday, 38-34.
Brown had a remarkable 16-year run with the Longhorns. After three straight nine-win seasons to start his tenure, UT won at least ten games in nine straight seasons.
Brown led Texas to six Big 12 South Division titles and two Big 12 championships. The Longhorns won the 2005 BCS National Championship and he won the Paul "Bear" Bryant Award.
Brown also spent time as a head coach at Appalachian State, Tulane and North Carolina. He currently serves as a game and studio analyst for ESPN.
