Colorado Springs is going to welcome a five-time Olympic gold medalist this fall to speak at the 11th annual Breakfast of Champions. Swimmer Gary Hall Jr. was announced as the keynote speaker for November 12th’s event that benefits the Peak Vista Community Health Foundation.
The breakfast will run from 7:30-9:00 a.m. and be held at The Broadmoor. Each year, Olympians regale the crowd with stories of their triumphs and also teach through the obstacles they faced while chasing their dreams.
Hall Jr. competed in the 1996, 2000, and 2004 Olympic Games, collecting a total of 10 medals. After his first Olympics, he was diagnosed as a Type 1 diabetic, but persevered to return even stronger as a swimmer.
At one point, Hall Jr. held the American 50-meter freestyle record and he was also a member of two world-record holding relay teams. He was inducted into the U.S. Olympic Swimming Hall of Fame in 2012.
Hall Jr. gained a lot of popularity by his colorful entrances during competition. His life has been devoted to swimming from a young age, as his father was also a three-time Olympic competitor.
