Olympic great Mary Lou Retton had an important speaking engagement this week at Judson University in Elgin, Illinois. On Monday, she spoke at the World Leaders Forum Inspiration Series.
The title of Retton's speech was "The Competitive Edge". She talked about the obstacles she had to overcome to be a world class gymnast.

Retton had a banner Olympics in 1984. She became the first American woman to win all-around gold and captured five total medals.
Due to the success of U.S. women in gymnastics following Retton's performance, she is known as a pioneer. She is also one of the early sports marketing stars and continues to be a sought-after representative for companies.
In addition to her Olympic wins, Retton won three American Cup all-around titles. She is a member of the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame and International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
