The Charleston River Dogs annually attract some of baseball's biggest names to speak at their Hot Stove Banquet and Auction. This January, Baseball Hall of Famer Tom Glavine will be the latest sports icon to be featured.
The event takes place January 27th at the Charleston Marriott Crystal Ballroom. For the tenth straight year, Tom McQueeney State Farm is the presenting sponsor.
Money raised from the banquet goes towards the baseball scholarship funds at The Citadel, College of Charleston and Charleston Southern. Tickets to attend are $75 while tables of eight are $600 and tables of ten are $750.
Glavine pitched for 22 big league seasons, racking up 305 wins and 2,607 strikeouts. He was part of an Atlanta Braves rotation that helped kick off a run of 14 straight division titles along with a World Series win in 1995.
During that Fall Classic, Glavine made two starts, posted a 1.29 ERA and won World Series MVP honors. He was also a two-time Cy Young winner.
Glavine won 20 or more games five times in his career and is the last pitcher in the majors to have three straight seasons of at least 20 wins. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a first ballot candidate in 2014.
