Hall of Famer Aeneas Williams is a Leader in the Ferguson Community

Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive back Aeneas Williams has become a leader in the troubled Ferguson, Missouri community.  Despite the turmoil that ensued following the shooting of Michael Brown last year, Williams stayed in the city to make a positive impact.

A year prior, he had moved his church from a comfortable St. Louis suburb to Ferguson.  Williams has been working with local officials to work on the relationship between the police force and its citizens.

The church also participates in Adopt-a-Block and goes weekly to mentor residents at the Canfield Green Apartments near where Brown was shot.  They have also canvassed other areas in the continued effort of outreach.

Williams has been an organizer and a leader for quite some time.  During his days in the NFL, he and his wife Tracy would organize various bible studies for players and their families.

Williams was also often prominently looked to for his role on the field.  He went into the Hall of Fame in 2014 after an eight-time Pro Bowl career.

There is no question that Williams was one of the finest defensive backs of the 1990s and also made four first-team All-Pro squads.  He impacted both the Arizona Cardinals and St. Louis Rams franchise’s and is a member of the former’s Ring of Honor.

Despite playing on two seasons at tiny Division I-AA Southern University, Williams was selected by the Cardinals in the third round of the 1991 NFL Draft.  After 55 career interceptions and a tenure filled with great moments, he had truly defied the odds.
