High school football state championships are in full swing and one group got a very special visit this week. Pro Football Hall of Famer Andre Tippett spoke Wednesday at the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association football state championship breakfast.
Tippett was able to address the room filled with players, coaches, and cheerleaders from all 12 teams participating. It is fitting that the games are being contested at Gillette Stadium, home to the New England Patriots, who he played his entire career with.
Tippett had a standout 12-year career at linebacker. He was selected to five Pro Bowls and four All-Pro squads.
As the anchor of the Patriots defense, Tippett was named to the 1980’s All-Decade Team. His 35 sacks accumulated from 1984-85 were a two-year record for a linebacker.
While New England did not have the same team success they are accustomed to now, Tippett still took three trips to the postseason and was a member of the 1985 AFC Champions. In addition to the Football Hall of Fame, he is also a member of the University of Iowa, National Jewish Sports, and Alabama Sports Halls of Fame.
Tippett has been a part of the Patriots front office since 1994. He currently serves as the Executive Director of Community Affairs.
