It is not often that someone from the sports world gets invited to speak at Harvard University. The college's Graduate School of Education recently bestowed Boston Celtics standout Jaylen Brown with that honor.
Brown spoke on Thursday night in Longfellow Hall. Leaders at Harvard became interested in having him address students after a recent interview he did in The Guardian.
Brown addressed the relationships between education and underserved communities like the one he grew up in in Atlanta, Georgia. He also shared his viewpoint on the place athletes who want to speak up about issues have in society.
In his second season, Brown is averaging 14 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Last year, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team after averaging 6.6 points per game.
Brown has definitely played a vital role in turning the Celtics into one of the top contenders in the Eastern Conference. Boston chose him with the sixth overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.
Prior to making the jump to the NBA, Brown spent one season at the University of California and was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. He is a former Mr. Georgia Basketbal and McDonald's All-American.
