Pomona College held a unique series of speaking engagements on February 16. Family weekend brought several prominent parents of students to campus, including Hockey Hall of Famer Cam Neely.
Neely spoke to the crowd about adjusting to challenges and having resilience during his presentation titled, "How Life's Challenges Shape Your Future." He hammered home his points with stories from his professional hockey career and his current tenure as a team executive.
Neely was able to share an anecdote from when he was traded early in his career and how it turned out for the best. His son, Jack, is currently a freshman at Pomona.
Neely spent the first three seasons of his career with the Vancouver Canucks before playing a decade with the Boston Bruins. With the Bruins, he blossomed into one of the NHL's most feared goal scorers.
Neely was a five-time NHL All-Star and scored 50 goals in a season three times. He is one of the all-time leaders in goals per game average.
Due to his repeated returns from injuries, Neely was awarded the Masterton Trophy in 1994. He became team president of the Bruins in 2010 and watched the team win their first Stanley Cup since 1972 a year later.
