Hockey Hall of Famer Ray Bourque Speaks at Acadia University Dinner

The hockey community around Acadia University is in for a special treat Thursday night.  Hockey Hall of Famer Ray Bourque is the keynote speaker for the 18th annual Acadia Axeman Celebrity Hockey Dinner held at the school in Nova Scotia.

The event will specifically be at Andrew H. McCain Arena and start at 7:00 p.m.  Tickets can be purchased at the arena box office and all proceeds from the dinner will go to the hockey program.

Bourque is one of greatest defensemen in NHL history.  He won five Norris Trophies as the league’s best defender and had a run where he captured four of the awards in five seasons from 1987-1991.

In 22 seasons, Bourque made 19 All-Star teams and finished with 1,579 points.  While best known for spending the majority of his career with the Boston Bruins, he also won a Stanley Cup in his final season with the Colorado Avalanche.

Bourque has the NHL career records for points and goals scored be a defensemen.  His scoring was built on being an excellent marksman with the stick, a claim backed up by eight career wins at the All-Star Game Shooting Accuracy Competition.

He became a Bruins co-captain in 1985 and was a captain for the team until he left midway through the 2000 season.  That stands as the longest captaincy in Boston history and one of the lengthiest in NHL history.
