Iconic Quarterback Archie Manning Speaks at Southern Legislative Conference

The 71st Annual Meeting of the Southern Legislative Conference is wrapping up today in Biloxi, Mississippi at the Mississippi Coast Convention Center. The schedule of events featured an icon of sports in the south, former NFL quarterback Archie Manning

Manning spoke at the conference on during the opening plenary session on Monday. He did take the time to address the controversy going on at his alma mater, Ole Miss, and the future of the football program going forward. 

The SLC Annual Meeting is the top regional public policy event for state legislators, legislative staff and other government officials. In addition to Manning, several regional and national policy experts also addressed attendees. 

Manning is the respected patriarch of a family that includes his Super Bowl-winning quarterback sons, Peyton and Eli. He first gained notoriety as a standout quarterback at Ole Miss. 

Manning was the 1969 SEC Player of the Year and a first-team All-American. His #18 jersey is retired by the Rebels and he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1989.

The New Orleans Saints selected Manning with the second pick in the 1971 NFL Draft and he went on to a 14-year pro career. He made two Pro Bowls and threw for 23,911 yards.
