Even on his way out of the NFL, Indianapolis Colts legend Robert Mathis still has plenty of fans across the Hoosier State. On Tuesday, he held an autograph signing in Muncie that attracted a large crowd.
Mathis made the appearance at Toyota of Muncie from 4-6 p.m. While he signed an array of items, fans who made the visit received free posters to get autographed as well.
With the Colts being sponsored by Toyota, the event had a natural feel to it. Mathis was certainly touched by the outpouring of support from fans outside of the team's immediate hometown.
Mathis played his entire 14-year career with Indianapolis and announced his retirement prior to the team's Week 16 game. He racked up 123 sacks in 209 games and is the NFL all-time leader in strip sacks.
Mathis was a six-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro. In 2013, he led the NFL with 19.5 sacks and was named AFC Defensive Player of the Year.
On ten occasions, Mathis helped the Colts make the playoffs and he was part of the team that won Super Bowl XLI. He is currently ranked 17th on the NFL's career sacks list.
