Despite his football career coming to a premature end, Inky Johnson has maintained a strong connection with Knoxville, Tennessee. The former University of Tennessee will speak at the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame induction on August 3rd.
The 36th annual event takes place at the Knoxville Convention Center. Hospitality begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by a 6:30 dinner and the 7:30 ceremony.
Individual tickets are $150 and all proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley. The Class of 2017 has not been announced yet, but ten sports icons with ties to the city will be inducted.
Johnson was a safety for the Vols from 2004-06 and an emerging NFL Draft prospect. An injury he suffered in a game early in the 2006 season ended his aspirations to play professional football.
Johnson went on to get a degree in sports psychology from UT. He now travels the country speaking, mentoring athletes and inspiring underprivileged youth.
Johnson is the author of, "Inky: An Amazing Story of Faith and Perseverance." He has spoken in front of organizations like the Air Force, AT&T and Wells Fargo.
