Six-time NBA champion Kareem Abdul-Jabbar went to talk to a few hundred middle-schoolers at Branciforte Middle School this past Monday to give them some advice on their futures. He also let them know that it is important to not sell themselves short, as everyone has the potential to do more than what they can imagine. The 19-time NBA All-Star shared with them some of the stories from his athletic career as well as well what he has been up to since retiring from basketball.
The six-time NBA MVP player has the current record for an all time leading scorer in the league and has his jersey number 33 retired from three different teams including the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers and his college UCLA. Abdul-Jabbar was the NBA rebounding champion in 1976 and NBA Rookie of the Year in 1970. He did a decent job of staying mostly injury free throughout his career, however he did break one of his hands twice during game play.
The seven-foot tall basketball star got to be questioned and quizzed by hundreds of middle schoolers throughout his time at their school, and he covered just about every topic under the sun. On a more humorous note, Abdul-Jabbar told the kids that living with a height like his means that he can see what people are trying to hide on top of their refrigerators.
