Kentucky basketball legend Jack "Goose" Givens has a special opportunity to speak back in the Bluegrass State this week. On Thursday, he is the featured speaker at the Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club's 34th annual Steak & Burger Dinner.
The dinner takes place beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Owenboro, Kentucky. Those who attend get the opportunity to have dinner with the young people that are directly benefit from the club.
Individual tickets are $75 while corporate tables cost $300. Proceeds from the event will go back into helping fund educational and recreational programs for the club.
Givens led the Wildcats to an NCAA title in 1978 while being named Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. In the championship game, he scored 41 points in the 94-88 win against Duke.
That year, Givens was also the Southeastern Conference Male Athlete of the Year and a second-team All-American. He finished his UK career with over 2,000 points and was a three-time All-SEC first-team pick.
The Atlanta Hawks selected Givens in the first round of the 1978 NBA Draft and he played two seasons with the team. In retirement he has held several roles in broadcasting, including serving as the orginal television analyst for the Orlando Magic from 1989-2004.
