Legendary College Baseball Coach Augie Garrido Speaks at Tennessee Volunteers First Pitch Banquet

With 47 years under his belt as a head coach, not many have better stories to tell than college baseball legend Augie Garrido. He was able to share some of them on Saturday as the featured speaker at Tennessee Baseball's First Pitch Banquet.

Garrido shared some unique tales, including discussing how he became great friends with star actor Kevin Costner. He also talked about the advice he gave the Volunteers first-year head coach, Tony Vitello.

A sold-out crowd of 250 UT fans turned out to hear from Garrido and take part in the festivities. The legendary coach also took time to speak to the Vols baseball team during his visit.

Garrido is the only coach to win a College World Series title in four different decades and one of just two coaches to win a championship at two different schools. His 1,975 victories are the most in NCAA history.

Garrido made 15 trips to the College World Series and 37 NCAA Regional Appearances. He first gained notoriety as a coach at Cal State Fullerton and later cemented his legacy at the University of Texas.

Garrido was a six-time Big 12 Coach of the Year while coaching the Longhorns. He is currently a special assistant to the athletic director at UT and a member of the College Baseball Hall of Fame.
