College Football coaching legend Steve Spurrier is sure to entertain at the upcoming Southwest Florida Sports Awards. On May 24th, he will keynote the event at 8 p.m. at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall in Fort Myers, Florida.
The News-Press and the Naples Daily News co-hosts the event. They will recognize around 150 student-athletes from Lee and Collier counties and hand out several top awards.
Spurrier will share plenty of fun stories from his iconic playing and coaching career. Individual tickets are $30.
As as a player at the University of Florida, Spurrier was a two-time consensus All-American and the 1966 Heisman Trophy winner. He spent ten seasons in the NFL before entering the coaching ranks.
After becoming a two-time Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year at Duke, Spurrier headed back to his alma mater to take the Gators to new heights. He won six Southeastern Conference titles and the 1996 National Championship at UF.
Spurrier also led South Carolina to three ten win seasons and is the Gamecocks all-time wins leader. He is now retired from coaching and works at Florida as an ambassador and consultant for the athletic department.
